NFS-CarToolkit v1.0 released

NFS-CarToolkit is a universal tool that allows you to create car mods for Speed games.

Main features of version 1.0:

  • Loading GEOMETRY.BIN and TEXTURES.BIN files from all Speed games (Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted, Carbon, ProStreet, Undercover and World),
  • Loading mods from the following 3D formats: Wavefront .OBJ, ZModeler v1.x,
  • Geometry and texture viewers,
  • Exporting the loaded geometry objects to the Wavefront .OBJ format,
  • Exporting the loaded textures as Direct Draw Surface .DDS files,
  • Exporting  GEOMETRY.BIN & TEXTURES.BIN compatible with Undercover (the list of supported games will be increased in the next update)

The user interface has 4 sections:

  • Recent files – list of files / folders that have been used recently. You can clear out invalid, for example moved or deleted, entries by clicking the Clear non-existing button. There is an option to remove all entries too (the Clear all button). To load any entry just double click on it, alternatively you can press the Enter button.
  • Geometry – displays tree with loaded object (the Object Explorer). Top items represent parts. Each part item can be expanded to view Materials or Mountpoints (will be visible only when the part has any assigned mountpoints). Current version allows to rename parts only. To do that you have to double click (left mouse button) on the part name. The viewer window is located on the right side. You can rotate the camera and adjust the zoom. Selected item (part, material or mountpoint) in the Object Explorer will be visible in red on the viewer.
  • Textures - shows a list of loaded textures.Textures can be loaded from TEXTURES.BIN file or a folder. You can export selected or all textures as Direct Draw Surface .DDS files. The list also shows thumbnails of all loaded textures.

  • Export - allows to export loaded geometry objects and textures as GEOMETRY.BIN and TEXTURES.BIN files. You can specify target game (currently only Undercover is supported) and car name. It's possible to export car with own name by entering the name in the Target car name control.
The logs window displays 3 types of messages: Info, Warning and Error. The warnings do not cancel the export process.

Comments

  1. when exporting the mesh and textures to an obj file, some textures are missing, like glass and the bodykit texture itself.

  4. Awesome Dawid! I don't want to be "this when", "that when" guy but I'll be waiting impatiently for any updates for this. :)

  5. This is not clearly, what people are waiting right now, and you know it. Not good man. Just finish your work on full toolkit and release it.

    1. Daaaaaaamn, when are people going to stop that fucking "toolkit when" bullshit? He makes those tools for himself at the first place and for the others at the second. You should appreciate the work and wait patiently however long it will take instead of yelling "not good, that's not what I want". Just realize he doesn't owe you a toolkit and he doesnt' even have to release it. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to offend anyone.

About the CarToolkit - I really needed this kind of thing as I suck at converting cars, thanks nfsu360! Just a request: post here more often to keep us aware of what you're doing.

    2. I agree with almost every your word, but still you gotta understand, that he's said some release date thing, and everyone, who's really interested in it, know about it. I'm waiting for toolkit, but releasing just a CarTool part of it is not a good act right now.

It would be okay, if there was no posts about when it's gonna be "probably" released, but he said, and now most of the people waiting for it this winter (He wrote that it would be released at the end of the 2018 year).

I'm not yelling, that it should be released right now, but releasing CarTool (which is a part of Toolkit I guess) when people are waiting for other thing in exactly this time - is not a good act, as I said already.

I'm not blaming nfsu360, but still.

    3. First things first, you are not the one who's deciding what's a good act and what's not.
Second, he has never given a release date himself (correct me if I'm wrong). IIRC what you're talking about is some people's wishes/expectations that aren't even supposed to be true.
Third, don't take this personal, there are many people complaining about toolkit being delayed, I'm just replying one of them.

    4. Dude, he owes you nothing. Keep in mind that he's working on and releasing these things for free. NFS Toolkit is quite an ambitious project, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few delays here and there.

  13. On some built GEOMETRY.BIN the tool says ERROR: failed to load file.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If it's only this error, it's because the file you try to load isn't a .OBJ or a Zmodeler 1.x format file (Old z3d).

And if you try to load GEOMETRY from a modded car, that's why it doesn't work, the file was compiled with an another tool to make the model work in NFS games. I had the same problem before. It's just a not supported format problem.

Just import or open your modded car on ZModeler 2.0.7 and then, export it in Old z3d format. Once you done that, you can open it with the car toolkit.

  17. Make the modmaking great again!

  18. Cars made with NFSU1-ModTools, NFSU2-ModTools, NFSC-ModTools and NFSPS-ModTools CAN'T be imported using NFS-CarToolkit for some strange reason (so I can't even import VAZ-2101 by Teso, originally made for NFSPS, though it DOES import your GT by Citroen's GEOMETRY.BIN for NFS Undercover). I hope you could make support of modded cars made with one of four aforementioned ModTools.

  20. hey man, just wanna say awesom work loving the tool so far, howeve ive spotted a somewhat of an annoying bug, when making the config documents for materials when having a blank space under a material the toolkit reads the blankspace as an invalid shader.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Bugs with mount points it seems, so certain mount points like "coplightblue" wont actually configure at all, even in a config theres and issue were the tool will read "_CoplightBl" instead of "_COPLIGHTBLUE" just thought id point it out.

  22. It could be cool if you can create a geometry compiler for Most Wanted. Because since 2006 we are oblige to use the Arushan's one and is really difficult to use. There's no any helps for it and it really start annoying me. It's impossible to convert a car with this tool without having 99.9% chances of having errors. Your tools are very easy to use and that's what I love. That's why the Geometry Compiler for Most Wanted is the thing I really want from you.
